Cape Town offers so many unique and exciting dining options. Along our 3 routes, you are sure to find anything from small hidden gems to award-winning fine dining restaurants, the list is endless. We thought to highlight a journey of tastes that can be visited along the City Red Route, Atlantic Seaboard Blue Route and the famous Constantia Wine Valley Purple Route.
Breakfast on the Red Route
There is no better way to start the day than with a fantastic breakfast at the V&A Waterfront (Stop 1) and the starting point for our Red and Blue Routes. We definitely recommend Ginja’s Restaurant located at the famed Victoria & Alfred Hotel. This historic hotel, built-in 1904, was the original North Quay Warehouse. This iconic hotel was named after Queen Victoria and her son, Prince Alfred who played a fundamental role in the establishment of the Breakwater Basin, which is now known as the V&A Waterfront.
Coffee
This beautiful restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, with tables right on the water's edge. Start the day sipping on coffee from their Native Espresso Bar whilst watching the harbour come to life, the seals swimming in the bay and the boats departing for the day. Their breakfast menu is delicious and includes a cold selection of granola, mixed fruit & yoghurt or if you’re a little hungrier, try their scrambled egg croissant benedict. They also offer amazing on-to-go breakfast baguettes.
Fine Dining Lunch on our Purple Route
Constantia (Stop 21) is an upmarket food and wine destination just 20 minutes outside the city and perfectly located on our Purple Wine Route tour.
Red Bus en route to Constantia
In this wine region, we highly recommend Groot Constantia Wine Estate (Stop 25). This is an estate you want to spend a few hours at. With so much to offer, we suggest starting your time on the estate with a tour of their original Cape Dutch Manor House. This double-story estate home is steeped in history and paved with white marble and red stone.
Following a walk down memory lane and enjoying the South African art and cultural history museum, we highly recommend lunch at Simons Restaurant. The ethos behind the chef's menu is for their cuisine to be fresh, seasonal, and using only local produce. Their delicious tasting Charcuterie & Cheese Board at R298 (for 2 people) includes a selection of products from the deli, including Charcuterie, Cheeses & Bread, a perfect starter to share. For the main course why not try their “Chicken Makhani” – a medium curry in a rich tomato & cashew nut sauce served with rice & roti. The outdoor area has phenomenal views over the mountain range and the vineyards which can be enjoyed whilst enjoying your dessert or sipping on a cold glass of wine, or one of their many craft beers on tap.
Ending of your time at this estate, you should definitely experience their chocolate and wine tasting, which includes 5 selected wines paired with 5 handcrafted chocolates and Souvenir Spiegelau Crystal Glass to take home with you.

Dessert along the Route
Red Bus Sea Point
If you are looking for a dessert shop like no other visit My Sugar Shop, located in Sea Point (Stop 10) along our Blue and Red Route. This dessert shop opened its doors in 2015. A store that specialises in anything and everything chocolate and sweet. Heading up this delightful shop is chocolatier Kaylah Greenberg and chef Asher Isaacs. Their combined talent uses traditional confectionery techniques with innovation and artistry with a quirky edge that can’t be found in any other dessert speciality store. Every item is hand-crafted in house using the finest local and international ingredients with their personalised twist.
Their chocolate bar offers a unique chocolate dining experience where you can taste everything from hand-painted chocolate bonbons, mouth-watering doughnuts filled with nostalgic desserts, indulgent milkshakes drizzled, and topped with their homemade confectionary, all paired perfectly with their own exclusive coffee blend.
Try their delectable Salted Caramel Doughnut – “A traditional yeast-based doughnut filled with salted caramelized white chocolate mousse dipped in chocolate ganache and topped with a shard of pretzel bark”. Or their famed Marshmallow Bomb – “a marshmallow fluff, a squeeze of caramel and choc chip cookie base in milk chocolate”. Or have a cup of their homebrew java along with a
Hazelnut Espresso vegan chocolate bite which is a “roasted hazelnut and espresso gianduja in a dark chocolate shell.”
