National Women’s day is just around the corner, and we’ve got the perfect way to celebrate being a woman or treating the special lady in your life.  With Women’s Day falling on Sunday, 9 August, and Monday being a public holiday, this is fantastic as it makes it a long weekend.

What is Women's Day

There is quite a history behind this auspicious date.  This date commemorates the women’s march of August 1956, when more than 20,000 South African women of all races marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest the Pass Laws.   The women stood silently for 30 minutes and then started singing a protest song that was composed in honour of the occasion: Wathint'Abafazi Wathint'imbokodo! (Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock.)

If you would like to treat your mom (or girlfriend), you may enjoy the slightly longer 2-hour 15 minute Blue Route Scenic Safari.  This tour covers the picturesque surrounds of the city whilst the bus meanders around the mountain passes and coastline.  The lady in your life will be sure to enjoy the scenic route as we travel over Constantia Nek down to Hout Bay.  We will stop at this beautiful historic harbour, where you can take some beautiful pictures with mom, with the baby seals in the background, or the enchanting vista of Chapmans Peak in the distance.  When we return to the city, driving passed Llundudno, you might want to share some interesting information with mom about this seaside village.  Did you know there are no street lights, shops or commercial activities, and the town has some of the most expensive residential property in South Africa?  Sounds like paradise.
