Whether you’re a tourist or local, seeing city sights can become a costly endeavour – especially when you're on a family budget. With summer around the corner, we've compiled a list of five Joburg activities guaranteed not to break the bank:
1. Take the easy route

The City Sightseeing red bus is one of the most well-known means of travel for tourists worldwide. Hopping off at interesting locations and back on again is convenient and you only have to buy one ticket for the whole day. Be sure to book online for great discounts and don’t forget to research the stops beforehand so you don’t miss out on anything.

Gold Reef City is a magical theme park where history and adventure collide. Just imagine roller coasters speeding through an old gold mine, which closed down in 1971. Gold Reef City is an ideal stop-off for families as well as folks who want to up their adrenalin levels.
3. Take a refreshment break

SAB World of Beer offers a glimpse into the backstory of one of our favourite beverages. SAB has been producing some of Africa’s favourite brews since 1895, and with the World of Beer tour you will learn the culture and history behind the much-loved drink.
The tour is a fun activity for kids and non-drinkers too, as it makes use of interactive media to tell the incredibly interesting story of beer.
4. Take a step back in time

The Apartheid Museum is a must-do for both tourists and locals, providing a glimpse into apartheid South Africa through a series of interactive displays and exhibits. Designed to resemble prison-like conditions, the museum will not only impart knowledge but is an experience that will stay with you for years to come.

5. Take some time to have a trendy snack

The Grove in Braamfontein is definitely the coolest place to be when visiting Joburg. Home to some of the trendiest coffee, clothing and gear shops, you most definitely won’t get bored here. Be sure not to miss the gorgeous Nelson Mandela Bridge, the neighbourhood’s most famous landmark. The Neighbourgoods Market on Saturdays is also a big must-visit for foodies and fashionistas alike.
