What better way to explore South Africa’s rich history than with a trip to Soweto with City Sightseeing?

Simply purchase a one- or two-day 1-Day City Tour and Soweto Combo ticket to visit Johannesburg’s largest and most vibrant township.

The Soweto tour , which can only be done in conjunction with the Joburg City Tour, is great value for money. There are several stops throughout the tour where guests can explore, shop and indulge.

You’ll hop off in Vilakazi Street and be invited to walk in the footsteps of South African legend Nelson Mandela. Enter the Mandela House, now a museum, where he and his family used to live.

The final stop is the Kliptown Open-Air Museum on Walter Sisulu Square where, in 1955, 3 000 people came together to adopt the Freedom Charter. See for yourself, engraved in stone, the 10 tenets upon which the South African Constitution is based.

As the trip through Soweto comes to an end, it becomes clear how each stop ties into the theme of freedom and how, through the sacrifices of many of Soweto’s inhabitants, the struggle against apartheid was won.

The bright-red SoWeToo taxi departs from stop 13 at the Apartheid Museum every hour from 11.15am to 3.15pm.

On arrival at the Apartheid Museum, you'll be met by your Soweto tour guide and driver.

The trip through Soweto (from departure to returning to the Apartheid Museum) takes approximately two hours. Unless you hop on the last taxi of the day (3.15pm), you'll have the option of spending a bit more time at the Hector Pieterson Museum or in Vilakazi Street.
