Step back in time with the Sterkfontein Caves & Voortrekker Monument Tour, a fascinating day trip that combines ancient history, cultural heritage, and a touch of wildlife.
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive to the UNESCO-listed Sterkfontein Caves, part of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. These caves are one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites, where the famous fossil skull of Mrs Ples – estimated to be over 2.5 million years old – was discovered. Join a guided underground tour and learn about the discoveries that have shaped our understanding of human evolution.
Next, stop at the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve for a chance to feed giraffes (subject to management approval) and enjoy lunch at the Neck & Deck Restaurant (own account).
Your journey continues to Pretoria, the capital city of South Africa, where you will visit the Voortrekker Monument – a striking granite structure and National Heritage Site that commemorates the Great Trek. Your guide will take you through the monument’s rich history and symbolism, followed by free time to explore the surrounding gardens.
This small-group tour (max 11 guests) offers a perfect blend of archaeology, history, and culture, running every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
