Visit Three of the best Cape Wine regions

November 2021

Cape Town is known as one of the best-producing wine regions in the world and has been producing wine since the first vines were planted in the 17th century. At City Sightseeing, we have the perfect solution to visit three of the best Cape Wine regions in one tour.  On a hot summery day, we can think of nothing better than a glass of crisp Chenin Blanc, fresh air, gorgeous views, historical wine estates, and educational wine experiences.

The beauty of the Winelands

THE DETAILS

Led by our expert wine guides, join us on our luxury air-conditioned coach that visits the wine regions of Franschhoek, Paarl, and Stellenbosch.  Departing from the city at 09h00 at the V&A Waterfront (Stop 1) or 08h30 at our tour office, located at 81 Long Street (Stop 5).  After a full day on board, where our skilled drivers have been your chauffeur for the day, we return to the city by 17h30.

THE ROUTE

●        The first stop

Starting the day, you will enjoy a chocolate and luxury wine tour as well as a cellar tour at the majestic Rhebokskloof wine farm. The chocolate on offer, curated by Huguenot Fine Chocolates, creates a chocolate and wine pairing like no other. Each chocolate was specially crafted to pair with the estates' wines and makes the perfect fusion between wine and chocolate flavours.

●        The second stop

The bus then takes a drive through Paarl, where we offer a photo stop at the Drakenstein Prison. Here Nelson Mandela served the last 14 months of his 27 years in prison in a house on the grounds of the Groot Drakenstein Prison (then known as Victor Verster Prison). He left the prison a free man when released in February 1990 and now, at the prison gates, stands a life-size bronze statue of Madiba with his fist raised.

●        The third stop

After the photo stop, we continue to Franschhoek, meaning "French corner," which lives up to its name with French-inspired cafes, delis, and wine shops, as well as Huguenot-era architecture.   Here guests will have approximately 1,5 hours to explore this historic village, enjoy lunch at leisure, as well as an urban wine (or beer) tasting.

●        The fourth stop

The route then continues over the impressive Helshoogte Pass - a picturesque pass that takes you across the saddle that connects Simonsberg and the Jonkershoekberge, passing fruit farms and vineyards along the way. Arriving in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch, take a stroll around the university town, with its oak-shaded streets that are lined with cafes, boutiques, and art galleries. We then make a final stop at Simonsig Wine Estate in the Stellenbosch region for an afternoon wine tasting and cheese platter.
