24 July 2018

Do you have a Saturday on your hands and are undecided how to fill the time? Look no further. We have put together the perfect daytime itinerary that ticks all the boxes – delicious food, sightseeing and adventure!

Recommendation: 1. Buy your red-bus ticket and prepare for a fun-filled day

1. Buy your red-bus ticket and prepare for a fun-filled day

The open-top red bus is one of the most fun ways to get from point A to B around Cape Town. Simply buy your ticket and you’ll be able to explore Cape Town on all open-top buses and routes, and you can hop on and off at stops as many times as you like.

You can buy your tickets online (and save R20!); at our ticket offices at 81 Long Street, the V&A Waterfront or Camps Bay; or from the bus driver as you hop on.

Top tip: No matter the weather, any day is a good day to hop on – bask in the sun on the top level of the open-top bus, or stay warm and cosy on the fully covered and heated bottom level.

Recommendation: 2. Get ready for an adventure at Cape Town Ziplines

2. Get ready for an adventure at Cape Town Ziplines

See the picturesque Constantia hills sloping from Table Mountain by gliding past on a zipline. Just a short walk from stop 21 at Constantia Nek (onm the Mini Peninsula Tour) you’ll find Cape Town Ziplines. Get ready for an adventure that allows you to see some incredible sights along the way!

You’ll start your adventure with a safety briefing, followed by an exhilarating 4x4 ride to the first zipline platform. Then you’ll glide past the beautiful landscape from 12 platform stops. The longest zipline is just under 500m and the highest sits at 155m, overlooking the tree canopy below.

Be sure to book your excursion in advance. Learn more about the Cape Town Ziplines experience.

Recommendation: 3. Replenish your energy with a delicious meal at La Parada Constantia Nek

3. Replenish your energy with a delicious meal at La Parada Constantia Nek

Adventure takes quite a lot of energy, so what better time to stop for a spot of lunch after your ziplining expedition? Also a short walk from stop 21 at Constantia Nek is La Parada tapas bar, where you can share a meal with your friends – dive into the tapas menu with a selection of mouthwatering Spanish dishes.

We recommend topping off your meal with a sweet treat of churros – Spanish-style donuts served with a chocolate dipping sauce.

Over weekends and holidays, it’s a good idea to book your table in advance as this stop can get quite busy.

Recommendation: 4. Finish off the day with a glass of wine at Groot Constantia

4. Finish off the day with a glass of wine at Groot Constantia

At this point you’ve swung above the tree canopies and enjoyed a delicious lunch. All that remains is to end the day with a wine tasting before enjoying the picturesque drive back to Cape Town, via Camps Bay, on the red bus.

Groot Constantia is stop 25  on our Constantia Wine Bus, and you simply hop on this bus from stop 21 at Constantia Nek. The Constantia Wine Bus runs on a circular route past three wine estates before heading back to Constantia Nek.

Groot Constantia is the oldest wine estate in South Africa, having recently celebrated its 300th birthday. After enjoying a wine tasting, wander the grounds or visit the Cape Dutch Manor House Museum.

Recommendation: 5. Sit back, relax and enjoy the coastal sights of Cape Town

After hopping off the Constantia Wine Bus back at Constantia Nek, the Mini Peninsula Tour will pick you up at this stop to take you back to Cape Town. But first, we’ll show you some incredible coastal sights en route.

From Constantia Nek, the red bus will drive to Hout Bay, a quaint little fishing village, before taking the road back to Cape Town along the Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to look out for dolphins or seals playing in the waves. In the winter months, you can even spot a few whales from this vantage point!
