Being a city of natural beauty, simply standing around outdoors can be a hugely rewarding experience in Cape Town. This is obviously quite useful if you're on a budget.
But, you don't have to spend a whole lot more to enjoy some of the city's finer things. Here is our list of things to see and do in Cape Town for R50 or less: (Also check out our separate blog about free things to do in Cape Town)
Spot seals, see a working harbour in action, and enjoy the stunning view of the city from the sea. Tickets are R50 for adults or less online.
Cape Town's city bowl is full of interesting coffee shops, sidewalk cafés, food stalls, pop-up shops and holes-in-the-wall, where drinks and snacks are sold cheaply. Start at City Sightseeing's Long Street office, and go exploring! Even if you're watching your wallet, there's plenty to do in the Mother City on one red Randela.
The Labia Theatre is the oldest independent cinema in the country, and they usually have a great mix of arthouse and blockbuster films showing on their screens. R50 for an adult ticket (hop off the bus at stop 15)
Perhaps the most picturesque putt putt course ever – right on the sea, and open late so you can keep playing after the sun sets. R22 for adults (hop off at stop 12).
It costs R40 for adults to explore by themselves, or R55 for a guided tour by an ex-resident of this once vibrant and historically-significant neighbourhood, at the District Six Museum (stop 17).
Tiptoe through the, er, roses, and pick your own from a wide variety for just R6.50 a stem at Chart Farm in Wynberg.
There are plenty of places to taste the Cape's quality wines, including favourites like Eagle's Nest (R50pp), stop 26 on the wine bus, or in Cape Town's CBD. *Do note the Eagle's Nest tasting has gone up by R10.
There are a number of buildings that make up the Iziko Museums, and most are around R30 each for adults or less. From stop 14, explore the museum, art gallery and planetarium.
