On 11 November 2011, Table Mountain was named one of the New7Wonders (N7W) of Nature. Today marks five years since that historic announcement.
As a N7W landmark, the famous mountain has helped boost local tourism, increased visitor numbers to the Cableway, and grown Cape Town’s global presence.
The New7Wonders journey started in December 2007. The first phase of global voting garnered over 440 locations from more than 220 countries in two years. Table Mountain made it into the top 77 nominees, and then the final 28, chosen by a panel of experts on 21 July 2009. After four years of planning and campaigning, thousands of people selected Table Mountain in the final phase of global voting – securing its spot as one of the N7W.
