At the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI)’s annual entry ticket pricing review for the National Botanical Gardens, SANBI took the decision to implement dual pricing due to the increased costs to the organisation and financial setbacks of 2020 due to COVID-19. It was concluded that a different pricing structure for Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden will provide sufficient revenue that will meet our rising conservation needs and ability to maintain a high standard for visitors.

From 1 April 2021, Kirstenbosch will implement dual pricing for non-South African and South African residents visiting the Garden. Non-South African residents of 18 years and older will pay R200 for an entry ticket.

Regular visitors to Kirstenbosch would have noticed that our entry fees remained unchanged since 1 September 2019. While the new price of R200 for adults is implemented from 1 April, South African residents can enjoy a discounted rate that is only marginally more expensive that the current rate; adults (18 years and older) will pay R80, and South African students R45.

All learners between 6 and 17 years will pay R25 from 1 April and children under 6 years will continue having free access to the garden, irrespective of where they reside. In order to claim the lower ticket rate, South African residents over 18 years can show their ID, a certified paper copy of their ID, an electronic copy of their ID or their driver's licence.

Students from a South African tertiary institute need to show their student card in order to qualify for the South African student rate.

• South African residents over the age of 60 (with ID): Free on Tuesdays except on public holidays
